Dear Parents/Guardians, TSI testing is approaching for our 8th grade students at Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School. Students will be automatically registered to take the TSI assessment if they meet one of the following criteria: Currently enrolled in Algebra Accepted to Jimmy Carter Early College High School Accepted into any P-TECH program at La Joya High School No additional requirements are needed for students who meet any of the criteria listed above. Our Power Up Club had an incredible learning experience at the UTRGV Coastal Studies Lab in beautiful South Padre Island! 🌊⚡ Students explored how renewable energy is used in coastal environments, participated in a hands-on STEM activity where they built a robotic arm, and wrapped up the day with an exciting shark dissection—identifying and extracting major organs while learning about marine biology. 🦈🔬 Thank you to their sponsors, Mrs. Reyna and Mrs. Moreno, for guiding and supporting our students throughout this unforgettable experience! A day full of discovery, innovation, and inspiration for our future STEM leaders! 💡

🎉 ExxonMobil Texas State Science Fair Success! 🔬 Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School continues its legacy of excellence by advancing students to the prestigious ExxonMobil Texas State Science Fair, held March 26–29! 👏 Congratulations to our outstanding students: Isaac Vazquez, Manuel Davila, Sophia Rostro, Daniela Flores, Kailani Garcia, and Nathan Montelongo. 🌟 A special shoutout to Nathan Montelongo for earning the Texas Master Naturalist Award along with a $250 prize! 📍 On Friday, students also participated in Aggieland Saturday Night (Night of Zach) at Texas A&M University–College Station, where they explored interactive booths, learned about a variety of careers, toured the campus, and experienced all that the university has to offer.
